A few years ago, a "standard poodle” appeared on campus. He was groomed, had a collar and was friendly, but wouldn't allow anyone to get close. The campus decided to informally "adopt” him and try to befriend him. Our bookstore set up a kennel area and students and staff donated a dog bed, food and other supplies. None of this worked however, and we could still not get close enough to read any information on his collar. Finally, two years later, his hair had grown so long that he began bumping into things... including a staff member who was able to grab his collar and bring him to the vet. One vet exam and haircut later (the vet cut off 14 pounds of hair!), "Winston” is now the best friend to our Bookstore Director and visits campus once each week!
