It’s never too late (Well, hardly ever).
We offer year-round rolling admissions. With no application deadlines, you can apply to SOU for any of our four quarters. We guarantee admission to all qualified undergraduates.
It’s the perfect size.
With an enrollment of 5,500, there are enough students that you can see a new face every day for four years, but small enough that your professors will get to know you.
We’re friendly.
Easy to say, but true. Don’t be surprised the first day of class if several people ask if you need help finding your classes*and a couple of really friendly ones might even walk you there.
You won’t have to search for that pesky umbrella as often.
Southern Oregon University is located 15 miles from the California border*that means you’ll see 265 days a year without rain or snow.
SOU is connected.
Due to the recently installed Ashland Fiber Network, Ashland has been named one of the most wired towns in the country by Yahoo! At SOU you’ll receive high-speed Internet access in your residence hall and access to more than a dozen computer labs across campus.
Ashland is a cool town
With the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Britt Music Festivals, Mount Ashland Ski Area, an independent film festival, a new blues club, and enough coffee shops to keep you wired for weeks, you won’t be bored.
You can finish faster.
SOU has one of the only true three-year degree programs in the nation. That means you save a year on tuition, get priority registrations for classes, and have room in your schedule for a full minor and extracurricular activities.
Location, location, location!
With mountains, rivers, and a lush 93-acre park, you won’t find a more beautiful place. And you can’t beat the road trips to Portland (5 hours), San Francisco (6 hours), Reno (5 hours), and Seattle (8 hours).
Choices.
SOU offers more than 100 academic programs and students can participate in more than 80 student clubs and organizations.
It’s extreme.
SOU has a great Outdoor Program where you can rent outdoor gear or participate in adventures like river rafting, mountain climbing, bungee jumping, kayaking, and mountain biking.

SOU was recognized by Outside magazine as one of the best places to work, play, study, and live. The magazine searched for the coolest towns - places where the outdoors and intellectual spirit mingle blissfully - and SOU, not surprisingly, made the list!

SOU has many popular traditions, including homecoming, Halloween festivities, and Theatre and Music events throughout the year. The annual Pow-Wow and Luau are very popular and well-atended.
